Revolving Fund:

209 Daniel Street

Over the course of time, since we closed on the Nadal property on Nash Street, we have contemplated how to best reinvest the Revolving Fund back into the community. Our collective conclusion is that the Revolving Fund is Preservation Of Wilson's single most effective tool for making an impact in the community. In June 2021, we purchased 209 Daniel Street, located between Broad and Kenan and we sold the house in 2022.

The particulars of this house are that it is a two-story 'four square' built in 1935 and is a "historically contributing" structure listed on the National Historic Register by virtue of its placement in Broad-Kenan. It is nestled in an area that has seen significant investment over the last few years; the houses surrounding it have either undergone a complete renovation or are currently under renovation.

Thank you for your continued loyalty and support that has made this venture possible!

Week 1

After removing seven bushes that were completely covering the front of the house, you can finally see the house in it’s entirety and it’s sizeable front porch. Our dumpster was delivered and has already been filled up twice. We began the process of removing debris and old materials that were hiding the historical integrity of this house. We are looking forward to what we find beneath years of additions!

Week 2

Most of what has been done is the removal of old materials from the walls and ceilings as well as a defunct HVAC system. The house had drop ceilings running throughout and paneling covering almost all the plaster walls. This tear out should be completed by the end of the week and then we will be moving on to the porch where we will likely open it back up where it had been previously closed in. It has a beautiful fireplace which we have unearthed in the living room.

Week 3

Our biggest break through this week was tearing out the old walls that had previously enclosed the front porch. The partition had been added in the 1980’s so that a bathroom could be added in that space. Now, it has been restored back to it’s 1935 specification. The remaining drop ceilings and paneling were also removed. Now the original walls are all revealed and seem to be in great shape! Next, we’ll begin interior repairs to the walls, floors, and windows.

Week 4

This week, we began interior repairs to the floors and we will start on the windows and walls next. This house is transforming and will make a wonderful home for a new family!
