Trades & Local Guidelines

Preservation of Wilson will provide you with a directory of historic preservation service providers as a resource.  These names have been provided to us by property owners that have contracted with these individuals. Preservation of Wilson does not warrant the quality of their work and only extend this list as a starting point in development of your preservation team.

For a copy of this list, please contact kfb@preservationofwilson.com or call 252-234-7694.

In addition, please contact us if you know of any qualified trades people comfortable with restoration work.

Design Guidelines for Local Historic Districts and Landmarks

The Wilson Historic Preservation Commission has compiled a set of Design Guidelines, based on the Secretary of Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation, specifically for those who own landmark structures and properties within Wilson's locally designed historic districts.  The Design Guidelines familiarize owners with the benefits and responsibilities of having property within Wilson's locally-designed historic districts.

All local districts are identified by street signs that have an additional brown sign that indicates the name of the historic district. Wilson has three local districts:  Old Wilson, Broad-Kenan and West Nash.

Guidelines may be viewed at http://www.wilsonnc.org/attachments/pages/142/GUIDELINES.pdf

Do I need a Certificate of Appropriateness?  Is my work considered major or minor?
When reading the Guidelines, check out page #5 which is a good starting point.

For the City Preservationist, please contact LuAnn Monson at lmonson@wilson.nc.org or call 252-399-2217.
