Like the other modest, one-story frame dwellings in this turn of the century neighborhood, this house was built along traditional lines and has a cross-gable roof. The interior has many architectural features that are still intact.
There are 5 rooms, a large kitchen, four fireplaces, bathroom area with no fixtures, back porch and fenced yard. It has, however, been seriously compromised by a thorough remodeling into its present Neo-Colonial form. These alterations were undertaken in the 1960s and resulted in a near total, but not irreversible, loss of the house’s original architectural character.
Lee Street is adjacent to Barton College, a liberal arts college which was founded in 1902 with approximately 1,200 students from 24 states and 9 countries. The location is also in walking distance to the downtown commercial district.
