301 W. Green Street
Wilson Primitive Baptist Church
This
brick Gothic Revival
Church was designed by Wilson architect Solon
Balias Moore and constructed by Jones Brothers in 1920.
The Church is presently occupied.
In addition to the unique rehabilitation plan for this structure,
restoration work will include deferred maintenance.
The
structure follows the traditional gable roofed cruciform plan and fronts on Green Street.
The façade features a narthex that contains a deeply recessed arched
double-door entryway and pairs of small lancet-shaped stained-glass windows.
Above the entrance is a large tripe lancet window framed with brick
spires. Stair-stepped buttresses
extend from the spires to both sides.
The Jackson Street
elevation features pairs of stained-glass windows enframed by buttresses and
a triple-lancet window in the transept.
On the front corner, a side entrance to the balcony projects with
doors matching those on the front.
The building’s right façade repeats most of the
Jackson Street elements.
The rear façade features two single-lancet windows and an ornate
central rose window. Noteworthy
elements are the hand-wrought iron door hinges, the decorative stone-capped
parapets, and the arched corbelled surrounds that contain the doors.

Landmark offers 50% reduction on your property taxes and qualifies the
